Dr. Martinez shares the experience of being the first-generation in her family to attend college. She received a Master’s in Nutrition Education from Columbia University and PhD in Public Health (Health Behavior) from the Joint Doctoral Program at UC San Diego and San Diego State University. Her research has focused on childhood obesity and related health behaviors, such as diet, physical activity, and sleep duration among Mexican American children.
Sonali received her MPH from the University of California Berkeley, with a concentration in Public Health Nutrition and certificate in Food Systems. Her research interests include food insecurity, mental health, diet-related health outcomes, and racial and ethnic disparities in food access. In her free time, Sonali enjoys cooking, photography, and staying active through rock climbing, hiking, and tennis.
Erin Esaryk’s research interests include the associations of food system biodiversity, food security, and childhood trauma with health. She received her Master's in Public Health at the University of California, Berkeley. She also teaches yoga and writes creatively.
Nicole received her MPH with a concentration in Epidemiology/Biostatistics from the University of California, Berkeley. Before attending graduate school, Nicole also obtained her bachelor’s degree in Cognitive Science, Psychology, and Public Health from UC Berkeley. Her research interests include mental health, food insecurity, and social epidemiology. Nicole enjoys playing tennis and pickleball, trying local cafes/restaurants, and spending time with friends and family.
Swetha is currently pursuing her MPH at UC Berkeley with a focus on Infectious Disease & Vaccinology. Her research interests focus on preventative measures for vulnerable populations, addressing issues related to infectious disease, food insecurity, and environmental determinants of health. During her free time, Swetha enjoys reading, baking, going on long walks, and spending quality time with her friends and family.
